Due to which residents of more than 2.5 lakh gram panchayats across the country will get accurate information about the local weather. These initiatives will help farmers plan their sowing and harvesting times better and prepare for climate-related risks.

On this occasion, Union Panchayati Raj Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh said that this effort of weather forecasting at the Gram Panchayat level will make a major contribution in strengthening the Indian economy. He described this system as the vehicle of decisive change in rural governance and agriculture-based economy, through which farmers will be made aware of climate change. This initiative will not only provide timely weather information to rural citizens, but will also prove helpful in preventing floods, droughts and uncertain weather changes.

Information will be accessible on digital platforms
Weather forecast data will now be available at the Panchayat level through digital platforms like Meri Panchayat App, e-Gram Swaraj, and Gram Map. Through these platforms, Panchayats will be able to improve functions like project tracking, resource management and spatial planning, which will accelerate rural development.
Organization of training workshop
Under this program, a training workshop on “Weather Forecasting at Gram Panchayat Level” was also organized for more than 200 Panchayat representatives, in which they were given practical training in understanding and use of weather forecasting tools. This will help them in bringing climate-friendly improvements in their respective areas.
